Help Baby with Good Habits for the New Year

POSTED Dec 21, 2012

Well, it’s that time of the year again – it’s time to put together your New Year’s resolutions (and vow not to break them no matter what happens!) But have you ever thought about New Year’s resolutions for your baby? Here are a few of our favorites that will help your little one grow and bring fun to the entire family!

It’s time to begin learning a language – a foreign language! New studies show that babies have a penchant for learning multiple languages in their earliest infancy. This could be your golden opportunity to not only teach them a language you know, but to learn a new language together – parent and baby. We live in a global world, so why not raise a global baby?

Get rid of that pacifier! There are new studies that show that overuse of a pacifier beyond a certain age can have detrimental effects on the normal development of babies’ teeth. The pacifier should only be used when your baby goes to sleep, and then should promptly be removed. By two years of age, you should be doing your utmost to help them break this habit.

Music makes the world go ‘round! Don’t neglect the musical benefits on brain development for your baby. There are a lot of different ways to promote musical development. Sing to your baby, sing with your baby, and don’t be afraid to start music lessons for your baby earlier than grade school. Children benefit from better spatial reasoning and a host of other things!

Explore the power of art. It helps promote communication, complex problem-solving, and many other real-life skills! So don’t be afraid of a little splattered paint – it’s doing them a lot of good.

Don’t underestimate the power of routine. Once your baby is comfortably established and is ready to begin a steady routine, don’t hesitate to put your plan to work. A healthy routine is great for anyone, especially a baby. If you expect your baby to fall asleep by a certain time, then you have to set up a routine that falls in line with that. Build your routine around specific events like mealtime.

These are just a few ways that you can get innovative when it comes to actually implementing resolutions. Remember to have fun with these ideas and you will definitely be on your way to a new baby and a new you!

New Parents :

The Balancing Act

POSTED Dec 6, 2012

It’s never easy being a new parent, believe us, we know! This challenge is even greater when you add the element of entertaining guests into the equation. There are several key distractions that can hurt your ability to be a gracious host. However with just a little bit of planning, you can fulfill all of your parental responsibilities and host a night to remember, simultaneously. Balancing these two things out can help you relieve stress. Here are a few helpful tips that can show you the path to balancing the two.

1.)    When it’s time to put your baby to bed early in the evening, encourage your guests to move to a room away from where he or she is sleeping. This will allow the baby to sleep harmoniously while still promoting a social atmosphere in which everyone can still have a great time.

2.)    Next, make sure you encourage your guests to interact with your baby. This is a win-win situation because it promotes an environment of healthy playtime. Also, it allows the guests to have a great time getting to know your baby (and of course take adorable photos).

3.)    Always feed your baby before feeding your guests. This will ease your mind, and it will also make him or her much more peaceful. Feeding your guests will also take a lot more time. There’s no need to delay.

4.)    This is one that often gets overlooked, but keep all alcohol consumption to a minimum. Guests who drink have the tendency to get loud which could lead to waking the baby, at the very least. Also, you don’t want your guests interacting with the baby, because accidents can occur, and no one wants to be a part of that.

Make sure you relax, or your tension will show. If you can enjoy the night without being tense, you’ll have achieved the perfect balance.

Creating Magic With Arts and Crafts

POSTED Nov 29, 2012

We love the look of wonder on a child’s face after turning ordinary household items into creations that let their imaginations run wild. The idea is not just to create the most lifelike creations, but rather give the children items and a goal for what these things should become with a little effort. We love the creative use of cardboard tubes to make this gallant castle.

There are only several key things to consider when you indulge in craft time. Make sure you control the dangerous items such as scissors, sharp pens, and other such things.

Next, always make sure you have extra materials. You will be amazed how creative children will be when actually given the creative license to experiment. It’s impressive! Color is a big part of the creative process, so be sure to have between 32 and 64 colors on hand so they can feel free to express themselves.

Be sure to allow them to take the lead in creative direction, or else it will seem like a chore to the children. Don’t be afraid to let the project veer off into unknown territory. Sometimes that can be the fun part! Whether you choose to go big, or keep it simple, arts and craft time is an enriching experience for the entire family!

Grand Travel Tips with Grandparents.com

POSTED Nov 13, 2012

Estella Kids is proud to announce our new partnership with Grandparents.com, a site providing a wealth of helpful, thought provoking information, and tons of amazing imagery. Due to our new relationship with Grandparents.com we wanted to take this time to give some quick holiday tips for all of the traveling grandparents out there.

The 2012 holiday season is a very exciting time, indeed. Unfortunately, it is also the busiest weekend in the entire year to travel. Long trips are just about the only negative attributes that diminish the beauty of the season. However, headaches associated with travelling should be taken in stride because, after all, they are the last hurdle between you and your family. Several basic tips can help you get to your loved ones in record time.

1.) Don’t underestimate the power of being early. It’s no secret major highways and airports become a circus, especially over the long weekend. You can drastically reduce your travel time by leaving one or two days early. Apply any extra vacation days you have to the long weekend and you’ll also have more precious time to spend with your grandchildren.

2.) Travel light, especially if you’re going by air. If you can avoid checking a bag in, you reduce the risk of major delays later. More lost and damaged bags are a product of this weekend than any other time of the year! Also, the wait at baggage carousels can be downright brutal! All you really need is a few extra sets of clothes.

3.) Stay calm! Travelling can be a very stressful ordeal, but just remember that tension will not help you reach your destination any quicker. Also it can set up negative vibes for the remainder of the trip. Bring along your favorite new book to keep you occupied. Believe me, it’s a necessity. If you are driving, take frequent breaks to stretch, and ease any tightness you may have. The goal is to arrive relaxed, and ready to spend quality time with your grandchildren.

4.) Presents! Picking out gifts for your little bundle of joy is never an easy task. With so many options it can be a little stressful, so we have a few ideas to help make the holiday season enjoyable and stress free.  For the little girls in your life we are suggesting the JANISE TODDLER GIRLS HEART PRINT DRESS IN ORGANIC COTTON for the ultimate “girly” look. For the little men we suggest ESTELLA DEVON ORGANIC BABY ROMPER IN STRIPES in red to get in the Holiday spirit. Do not forget to pack these gifts in your carry on to prevent any lost presents and a headache. Also fold these items carefully without being crushed to prevent wrinkling. For fun gifts we think the BoBo Stuffed Dog is the perfect holiday friend for your little one.
