Just In: Spring & Summer Eddie Pen Cargo Shorts

eddie pen just in estella cargo shorts

Spring & Summer Boys Cargo Shorts from Eddie Pen are here at Estella!

These aren’t his daddy’s tattered cargo shorts, now worn mainly on hiking trips where he won’t see too many people. They’re cargo shorts you’ll actually be excited to buy in all three colors: army green, royal blue, and blackish-gray. The fit is soft and comfortable, the pockets are roomy, and your little boy will be able to wear them practically anywhere (though we’re not accountable for private school dress codes, unfortunately.)

From luxury Italian label Eddie Pen, these cargo shorts are a classic, preppy basic that communicates American style with a hint of sophistication. They would make a great match with our classic Hartford buttondowns and vintage-looking polo shirts. Uh oh, now you’ve got an all-American poster child (with an outfit made in Italy and France) on your hands!

Product information:

100% cotton. The shorts include two front pockets, two back pockets, and two cargo pockets. $60 in our shop or on the Estella website.

Just In: Spring & Summer Munster Kids

just in estella spring summer munster kids clothing

The Spring & Summer Munster Kids collection is here at Estella! Parents of surfer and skater kids (and their wannabes), you should take note of this Australian brand.

Sometimes you’ve gotta let your kids rebel in little ways. Otherwise, they’ll just do it themselves anyway. Let them dye a streak of their hair; it’ll grow out. Munster Kids “gets” rebellion, and makes it harmless and fun.

Taking its cues from art, music, and street culture, the Australian company is known for its fun, funky graphic prints and colors. Inspired by urban legend Mikey Munster, “the devious side of every kid,” as Munster says, Munster Kids combines kid themes with adult styling, leaving you, the parent, just a teensy bit jealous. (Sample line from “The Legend of Mikey Munster:” “They say he gets into the minds of the small / Makes them pick their nose and wipe it on the wall.”)

But it’s not all fun and games: A pioneer of socially conscious commerce, Munster commissions an artist to produce a special T-shirt print every season. For every T-shirt sold, they donate a T-shirt to an orphanage in Cambodia or Vietnam. This Spring and Summer 2011, Munster T-shirts were designed by New York artist Matthew Langille, who has worked with Marc Jacobs, Swatch, and Havaianas.

What clothes and accessories would you pair these Munster pieces with? Be creative!

1. Munster Girls Star Poplin Dress: Can’t you just see the Munster Girls Star Poplin Dress styled with a side ponytail, leggings, and jelly bracelets? Throw in some legwarmers, and you’re good to go. Whether or not you love the 80s trend, it’s here to stay. But no worries, your little girl can wear this dress any way she likes — by itself, with a belt, or maybe with jeans. Made with eco-friendly cotton.

2. Munster Astronaut Shirt: To infinity and beyond! …is where your little boy will want to go in this adventurous astronaut T-shirt. Black with a colorful astronaut themed applique, it’s sure to nurture some interesting career aspirations in your boy (just tell him law school includes space travel, too).

3. Munster Girls Black Rainbow Button Jumper: This black acid-wash-colored girls jumper is all about fun, fun, fun, with its rainbow buttons and playful, sporty shape. Super versatile and comfortable, it’s perfect for class, playing, and everything in between.

Style away!

Just In: Spring & Summer Hartford Kids Shirts & Blouses

Spring & Summer Hartford kids shirts and blouses are here!

Newly in at the Estella shop and on our website, Hartford makes basics with a twist, and does it well. Born in New York City, the French label combines European flair in its prints and details with a classic American vibe in its cuts. Pieces like buttondown shirts in distinctive Liberty of London prints, and luxurious linen blouses with sweet details like ruffle shoulders, grace the label’s spring/summer collection.

When he founded Hartford in 1979, Yves Chareton wanted to recreate 1950s-style vintage shirts like those he found in flea markets throughout Paris in the 1960s. Chareton’s vintage-inspired line was an instant success, with famous fans like Bruce Springsteen ordering madras and oxford shirts by the dozen. Within a few years, Chareton developed an entire men’s collection.

Styish but never trendy, Chareton’s priority has always been cut, proportion, and color, with a twist of the unexpected. Hartford takes basic, classic pieces and reinvents them into fresh and new creations. The extension from men’s to children’s wear, which happened around 2001, was natural, given Hartford’s rising popularity. Hartford’s children’s line echoes the adult line with vintage-inspired pieces that are meant to look faded, classic cuts, and eye-popping bright colors.

Product information:

1. Boys Cotton Voile Long Sleeve Buttondown Shirt, $95

2. Girls Linen Ruffle Shoulder Blouse, $110

3. Boys Cotton Liberty of London Print Buttondown Shirt, $135
