Picnic Perfect

POSTED May 19, 2010

yhst-87491494023326_2105_681096

You were looking in the attic for your collection of Girl Scout Badges your older daughter wants to see — you were quite the achiever, even back then — when you come across the box your mother gave you filled with old photo albums.  Some of the albums had faded covers, while others showed their age with the yellowed pages and sticky, clear protective sheets that refuse to come off the page.  It is while you are looking through one album marked “Picnics” that you find that picture of yourself.  You are two and holding an enormous bologna sandwich and you are the spitting image of your youngest daughter, who is also two.  The resemblance is uncanny.

You’re clad in your best picnic outfit:  a bright yellow plaid sun suit.  You call your mother up and ask her about that outfit. “You wore it all the time!” she tells you.  You fall in love with that sun suit, with that time and with those memories all over again.  So it is no wonder that Estella’s Baby Girl Sun suit has you instantly smitten.  This gorgeous ode to everything sunny and fun is made with 100% cotton and fits your baby girl like a dream.  The plaid’s color scheme is a perfect compliment to the shape and movement of the sun suit.

You feel so nostalgic and content, that you decide to take your crew on a picnic.  And of course your little one is wearing one of her favorite baby clothes!  Estella’s sun suit.  It’s time for her to get her picnic memories going, after all…

A Pant by Any Other Name Would Be as Sweet

POSTED Apr 9, 2010

You know what is interesting?  The history of clothing, that’s what.  Forget about sport stats, celebrity gossip, hunky vampire lovers and the latest movie of the week.  Fashion’s origins are far more compelling than any of the above. Did you know that the first version of the modern zipper was invited in 1891 by Whitcomb L. Judson. Go ahead and save that one for your next rainy day trivia game night!

Our favorite bit of history, however, is that overalls were first called “slops” back in the 18th century.  It seems fitting, I suppose, for at that time they were used for toiling the earth and working the land. Well, there is absolutely nothing sloppy about Mormor Nu’s Knitted Overalls made just for your baby boy.

These darling hand knitted overalls in a gorgeous shade (The color purple dates back to1600 B.C.E.!) are created with a merino wool and pima cotton blend making these overalls more resistant to fading, soft as soft can be and ideal for all year use keeping your babe warm in the winter and cool in the summer wicking away sweat.  Wow!  Our fashion history nerdiness is clearly showing. How do you stop this crazy thing?

The Mormor Nu’s Knitted Overalls also feature four buttons and plenty of stretch so that your boy can easily grow into them which is great since they’ll become your favorite and his.

Organic Baby Cotton Romper in Grey by Imps & Elfs

POSTED Mar 17, 2010

yhst-87491494023326_2095_31217294

He is fast.  Oh, so fast but you’re faster – or so you’d like to think.  As you slowly approach your baby boy, much like a lioness would approach its prey, you hope you don’t make too much noise, or startle him driving him to flee in an immediate reaction of self-preservation.  Only, wait a second, what exactly is he preserving?  All you want to do is change his diaper!  Still, as he sits on the living room floor, quietly playing with his blocks the National Geographic nature special song and dance continues.  Step by step, you draw nearer and near.  Closer and closer still…until you step on his favorite rubber ducky that betrays you with a loud squawk.  He sees you, jumps up and runs away faster than you knew his little chubby legs could carry him.

It’s a good thing he is wearing his Organic Cotton Baby Romper in Grey by Imps & Elfs. This is one wardrobe staples you can’t get enough of.  Not only is this romper as stylish as it is darling (you even take him to the grocery store and coffee shop in it), it’s also so very helpful in that moment when you finally catch your little imp and have a moment to change his diaper.  The practical snap crotch closure makes for easy diaper retrieval, so you are in and out quick as a wink.

Mom: 1, Baby Boy: 0. Still, you wonder where he gets that stealthy speed from?  It must genetics, of course!  Clearly he gets it from you.

You’ve Never Met a Stripe You Didn’t Like

POSTED Mar 4, 2010

i

You have always had a thing for stripes, it’s true.  Whether your love had its origins with Italian gondoliers, French sailors, chic New Wave actresses or that shy goth boy you had a major crush on in high school, you will never know for certain.  All you know is that you have never met a stripe you didn’t like, and in your heart you are certain that there is a special place in fashion heaven for the striped shirt.

Now that you’re a mother, you think you may have passed the striped gene onto your son, what with his fascination for Beetlejuice and barber shop poles.  So it’s no surprise that you dress your baby boy in Imps & Elfs organic striped baby t-shirt.  This gorgeous piece is complex simplicity at its best.

A classic staple for even the youngest wardrobe, this shirt is one that will never go out of style.  Easy to dress up (just add a crisp denim jacket, loafers and a cool scarf, très chic!) and just as easy to wear for everyday outings, this iconic piece is certain to become a favorite.  Made with cuddly soft organic cotton, how could it not?

So go ahead and relish your mutual love for all things striped:  shirts, zebras, skunks.  It’s O.K., you’ll always be in style.
