Baby Dresses

Recognizing Beauty

Sometimes I look at a design pattern on a girls’ dress and it’s clear what it is. It’s a giraffe. It’s a daisy. Oh look, it’s another butterfly. But then there are the precious times where the design is something more of a mystery. I might not know what the animal is, but it makes me laugh. The flower type might be unrecognizable but it sure is beautiful. I welcome these times when the design elements are more emotional and physical. Not everything needs to be so cut and dry. Sometimes something just has to make you feel good.

The basis behind the design of the Marilyn Dress by designer Dagmar Daley is just that. It’s not what the shapes are. It’s how they make you feel. These lovely white arrangements on the pattern almost resemble pussywillow shadows. Or fluffy cotton explosions. Or delightful little dandelions, ready to blow while you make a wish. Who knows? I really have no idea. But the main thing is how they make you feel.

When you look at the dress, it’s as light as a feather. It gives you this serene feeling of sheer happiness. The light flow of the cotton and the lovely empire waist evoke even more of an airy emotion. And if something can attribute a serene feeling to the whirlwind that is a young girl…well, I’ll take two.

Grandmother Made, Modern Style

yhst-87491494023326_2100_108579016

I never met my grandmother, so I can’t say that I have a box full of any infant heirlooms.  Not a blanket or baby bootie to speak of.  It is a bit sad, really.  There wasn’t a kindly grey-haired woman with starlight mints and butterscotch hard candy in her pocket, rocking in her chair knitting and purling her afternoons away for me.  My best friend’s grandmother didn’t knit.  She chose not to learn, seeing knitting as an antiquated art form.  This lack of knitting in our early years has left my best friend and me feeling as though we’ve been missing something.  The only left for us to do was to teach ourselves to knit.  I can make you and your entire family each a scarf…and that’s about all I can do.  Rectangles are the bulk of my oeuvre.

Those who can do, and those who can’t are thankful for the Danish company Mormor Nu which has come to fill our yarny void with their gorgeous handmade knitted creations.  Did I mention how much I am loving their baby girls’ Hand-knit Dress in Grey?  When knitting and grey combine to create a baby girls’ dress a great combination of old meets new is born.

With delicate detailing and a round neck, this baby girls dress will be the envy of the block and the talk of the town.  And, my favorite part is that Mormor Nu works with independent knitters (most of them grandmothers, seriously!) to create all of their work.

After all these years, I finally have some knitted clothing created by grandmom!  It’s about time.

Little Dress on the Prairie

dress

It’s the crack of dawn and the roosters are starting to rustle.  You want to stay in your bed for five more minutes, just five more minutes.  You know that is not going to happen as Pa is already out in the prairie working the land, and today it is definitely your day to milk the cows.  Wait…what?  Pa who? Snap out of it! The only cow you’re coming into contact with this morning is that container of half and half you are splashing into your coffee.

At night, you may dream of farms and prairies (although sometimes they tend to be more like nightmares) but during the day you live in a concrete jungle where everything is fast-paced and moving. And this morning, you have to move quickly and decide what to wear but that is a different enigma all together.  One thing for certain, you know what your baby girl is going to wear.  That gorgeous girls Prairie Dress by Kit + Lil is one easy decision you will make today.

Kit + Lil’s breezy 100% cotton girls Prairie Dress features a lush color palette of pinks, mauves and fuschias coming together in a springy flower and leaf pattern with a hush of eyelet trim.  There’s no mistaking this dress means spring and everything that comes with it:  walks in the park, ice cream in the backyard and slowing down to stop and smell the roses.  Pa would want you to.

I Love My Job!

dress

I guess the reason I love my job here at Estella so much is that I love to shop. And, finding great clothes for you and yours is just another form of shopping. Today I’ve got a great excuse for you to shop: our little girls dresses are on sale.

Little girls and dresses are just the perfect combination. And, I love it when I find dresses that actually look like dresses for little girls, rather than downsized women’s clothes. For that reason, I love the line of little girl and baby girl dresses we’ve assembled at Estella. Though we have a wide range of dress styles for little girls, they all look like they belong on a little girl. And I think your little girls will like them, too. Because of course, there comes that time when you can’t pick out her clothes anymore, because she’s become such a fashion maven in her own right, like Lily, one of my favorites little mavens at Mommy Tracked.

This sale is particularly exciting because we have dresses that your little ones can wear right now, as well as beautiful styles for the spring. And, the prices are fabulous – you can buy one of each!

Now that the temperatures are especially cold, it’s a great time to pair some of those winter dresses with warm tights or leggings. http://www.estella-nyc.com/babygirlsale-fallwinterclothes.html

But, when spring rolls around, your little princess can sport bare legs and cute sandals with all the spring styles. Easter comes the first weekend in April this year, and if you shop right now, you can be ready way ahead of time, and avoid the price increases that will undoubtedly happen once the weather warms.

I love finding designer baby clothes, and I love bringing you high quality outfits. But, there’s no question that one of the things I love most is seeing our beautiful little girls’ dresses on your beautiful little girls. And, when I can help you find them at great prices, it’s all the better!
