Kidscase Fall 2013

POSTED Sep 30, 2013

Gender neutral colors, versatile knits, and simple designs make up Kidcase‘s beautiful fall 2013 collection. It looks lovely of course and these pictures are so tranquil and elegant that we are almost (almost!) looking forward to cold weather and snowy mornings spent lounging at home. We especially love the brand’s commitment to environmental sustainability and dedication to manufacturing at least 70% of its collection using organic cotton. Head on over the Kidcase website to view and shop the whole collection.

Grandmother Made, Modern Style

POSTED Apr 6, 2010

I never met my grandmother, so I can’t say that I have a box full of any infant heirlooms.  Not a blanket or baby bootie to speak of.  It is a bit sad, really.  There wasn’t a kindly grey-haired woman with starlight mints and butterscotch hard candy in her pocket, rocking in her chair knitting and purling her afternoons away for me.  My best friend’s grandmother didn’t knit.  She chose not to learn, seeing knitting as an antiquated art form.  This lack of knitting in our early years has left my best friend and me feeling as though we’ve been missing something.  The only left for us to do was to teach ourselves to knit.  I can make you and your entire family each a scarf…and that’s about all I can do.  Rectangles are the bulk of my oeuvre.

Those who can do, and those who can’t are thankful for the Danish company Mormor Nu which has come to fill our yarny void with their gorgeous handmade knitted creations.  Did I mention how much I am loving their baby girls’ Hand-knit Dress in Grey?  When knitting and grey combine to create a baby girls’ dress a great combination of old meets new is born.

With delicate detailing and a round neck, this baby girls dress will be the envy of the block and the talk of the town.  And, my favorite part is that Mormor Nu works with independent knitters (most of them grandmothers, seriously!) to create all of their work.

After all these years, I finally have some knitted clothing created by grandmom!  It’s about time.

POSTED Nov 4, 2009

It’s the time of year for layering in cozy knits – Estella has the little ones in your life covered with our gorgeous collection of even-better-than-grandma’s knits. Unique accents like gold trimmed ruffles and little nubby pompoms make these pieces perfect for the Holidays (and the annual Christmas photo!) and are hand-knit with love and in fair-trade conditions in Nepal and Denmark.

  1. Girl’s Knit Flutter Sleeve Sweater – The ‘strong shoulder’ detailing is one of the hottest trends this season: this version, just for girls, exhibits the trend without going all Lady GaGa. Flirty, cute and feminine with a pompom tie. Hand-knit in Nepal by Estella.
  2. Girl’s PomPom Knit Sweater – Word can’t really describe the gorgeousness of this classic sweater, but I’ll try: rows of small pompoms are knit into this richly detailed sweater. The little buttons that adorn the shoulder make this sweater a classic. Hand-knit in Nepal by Estella.
  3. MorMor Hand-Knit Baby Bolero – Perfect casual bolero to throw over any Holiday ensemble. Hand-knit in Denmark by MorMor Nu. Also available in Kid size.
  4. MorMor Nu Ruffle Baby Pants – These adorable and unique ruffle bottoms are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. Gold trim ruffles adorn these chic and comfy knit bottoms. Hand-knit in Denmark by MorMor Nu.
