If you or your toddler isn’t into going all out for Halloween in one of Siaomimi Play’s costumes for toddlers, there are lots of accessories (like tiaras, wands, & masks) and “everyday” clothes to help him or her get in the spirit. We believe childhood should always be fun and every day is the perfect opportunity to dress up, regardless of the time of year. Pair these items with clothes already in your child’s closet to create a fast and simple DIY costume…
A superhero mask or simple felt eye mask adds a touch of mystery.
Tutus! The blinged-out options from Atsuyo et Akiko are what girls’ dreams are made of; throw in a wand or pair of ballet slippers to complete the outfit.
NUNUNU‘s leather leggings and metallic gold crewneck were designed for everyday wear, but could always be incorporated into a futuristic or sci-fi themed costume.
A girls’ tiara from Atsuyo et Akiko, Wovenplay, or Siaomimi Play to be worn now, for Halloween, & beyond.

The fall 2014 Atsuyo et Akiko collection, Royal, has arrived at Estella! The Brooklyn-based brand’s designers, Atsuyo Yang and Akiko Mukae, have a talent for designing and producing clothes for baby and toddler girls’ clothes that are feminine, whimsical, and imaginative. Always one to embrace girly details, lots of sequins, and bold colors, the brand combines its designer’s French and Japanese design aesthetic into a line of clothes and accessories that appeals to young girls’ playful personalities and imaginations. As an added plus, Atsuyo et Akiko is committed to creating clothes and accessories that are produced (often by hand) in the USA, and many of the t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton.
For fall, the duo added new colors and details to its popular girl’s tutu, continued to design its practical yet fun screen-printed graphic t-shirts, and introduced new decorative pillows, including this blinged-out sequin heart cushion. There are also tiara hair bands, princess crowns, and wands that are wonderful gifts and, when paired with the line’s tutus, make fun girls’ costumes and or dress up clothes. Check it all out here!

The countdown to Halloween is officially upon us, which means it’s time to start thinking about costumes! Siaomimi Play is one of our favorite brands for girls’ and boys’ dress up; Hilda Yim, the line’s founder and designer, started Siaomimi Play (named for her daughter) when she moved back to Hong Kong after years spent working in women’s wear in the US. Yim has a knack for taking classic costumes – a princess dress, superhero, or witch, for example – and creating totally unique, beautifully detailed dress up creations that are imaginative, whimsical, and even more incredible in person.
Siaomimi works with a Fair Trade atelier in China whose artisans are skilled and devoted to the craft – not a large factory focused on mass-production – and the results are stunning. Layers of tulle, metallic embellishments, and bold colors come together to create one-of-a-kind creations that will not only encourage children to to get into character on October 31st, but also play dress up all year long. And if you have a little one who prefers to not go all out, there’s a tiara, eye mask, and cool monster head that are still imaginative but don’t require an entire ensemble. For those who treat every day like the perfect time to dress up, Siaomimi Play’s collection is definitely one to check out.

Halloween Tips + Tricks :

With Halloween just around the corner, your little one might already be asking you to throw a spooky Halloween party complete with costumes, friends, and candy. Create a brouhaha in your neighborhood by surprising your little witch with a truly terrifying witches’ gathering that includes themed decorations and Halloween activities for kids.
Cast a spell over your guests, convincing them to come with invitations that feature a bubbling witches’ cauldron.
Then, as the many goblins, ghosts, and ghouls arrive, serve them a witches’ brew full of worms, eyeballs, and magical potions.
After a night of cauldron-tending and broom-flying, send the coven of guests home with witchy gifts like Halloween coloring pages, miniature brooms, and witch hats. Happy Halloween!

Happy October 1st! Halloween is just around the corner, but for kids with peanut or tree nut allergies, the holiday can be a bit of a bummer. Who wants to go trick-or-treating when you’re unable to enjoy any of your candy? Luckily, there are a bunch of peanut free candy options out there, and one of our favorites is Peanut Free Planet. What’s great about the site is that it offers all the same candy we know and love (Kit Kat, Mars Bars, Smarties, etc.), but it contains no peanuts (and often no tree nuts, as well) and is manufactured on safe equipment. PFP also has options for those allergic to dairy, gluten, and soy as well. Head on over to PFP’s website to stock up. Happy Halloween!
